Contemporary Music Practices

Please note: the main language of this research day is English.

The artistic, scientific and practice based research at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel is fully integrated into the Music and Musical curricula and all education is research driven. Its objective is to educate wellinformed, high level musicians who are able to reflect critically upon their own musical practice. The research is driven by the research council Trobador.

The Contemporary Music Practices research group provides a platform for performers of the highest level to transcend their individual artistic activity by questioning the position of their work in our contemporary context. The main research domain consists of the canon of recent Western music history-from Beethoven to today. All members of this research group-each of them specialising in a sharply defined subject-play polyphonic arpeggios on the keyboard of Western music history. All are involved in an ongoing dialogue with their colleagues, enjoying the interplay of resolved and unresolved dissonances that culminate in a harmony you have never heard before.
