Kunsthumaniora Brussel visiting the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussels

Open door day especially for KHB

What a fantastic edition of the open day! On Monday the 19th of February 2024, we welcomed around 65 students from the Kunsthumaniora Brussel (the secondary art school of brussels) within the walls of the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussels, School of Arts of the Erasmushogeschool Brussel
This year, students from the 5th, 6th and 7th year Music Classical/Jazz attended, and the enthusiasm was infectious!

Course of the day

Of course, this open day could not start any other way than with music!
Ex-KHB students, now studying at KCB, provided the musical touch.

Classical
Lara Stapper (clarinet) & Célian Siebertz (piano)

Jazz
Adinda Hertmans ( voice), Gilles Van Den Cruyce (voice), Edoardo Cimino (guitar), Yusheng Jiang (bass) & Raphaël Aurand (drums)

After the performances, the students were briefed by the student administration on Admission Tests and by the head of programme about the Music programme as a whole.
The Q&A between current KHB and ex-KHB students was heartfelt and meaningful, given their shared backgrounds and interests.

A tour of the campus was followed by a sandwich lunch to build up energy for the afternoon programme.

Attending classes at the conservatoire

In the afternoon, all KHB students were able to attend classes. Notable was the great interest in Music & Technology, a field of study that is very much in demand these days.

As group lessons, they could participate in AMV Rhythm & Intonation, History of Jazz, Chamber Music & Jazz ensembles. There were also individual lessons where they could sometimes even play preludes, including Trumpet, Violin, Percussion, Cello, Piano, Viola, and more.

There were also two unique activities that KHB could enjoy: a Guitar Masterclass with Mats Bergström (Sweden) and Luigi Attademo (Italy), and a rehearsal of the Historical Orchestra conducted by Reinoud Van Mechelen.

A successful Open Day

This day was an enrichment for all the people involved. Both KCB and KHB gained a better understanding of each other's needs and expectations. It is essential to get to know each other before deciding to pursue their studies at KCB.
Art studies require a deep and personal commitment, where a click between student and professor is essential.
