Bernardo, born in Porto, is one of Portugal’s leading horn players. He studied with Jonathan Luxton in Lisbon and Ab Koster in Hamburg, and currently performs with the Symphony Orchestra of Casa da Música.
He has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician across Europe and the Americas, and teaches at the University of Aveiro, ESMAE in Porto and the Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho. He is also a lecturer in the university programmes of the MpMusic Foundation in Seville.
Bernardo is a sought-after teacher for masterclasses and serves on juries in countries including Portugal, Spain and Finland. In 2002, he won first prize at the Farkas Competition of the International Horn Society.
His discography includes two solo albums, Lunar Songs and Solo, as well as the world premiere recording of Jeanne d’Arc by Alex Poelman. He co-founded the horn quartet Trompas Lusas and is active in various chamber music ensembles.
