ENRICO GATTI

Enrico Gatti is a leading specialist in 17th- and 18th-century repertoire, having studied with Chiara Banchini in Geneva and Sigiswald Kuijken in The Hague. He has performed worldwide with ensembles such as La Petite Bande, Ensemble 415, Hespèrion XX, Bach Collegium Japan and Les Arts Florissants, and has worked with Gustav Leonhardt and Ton Koopman.

Founder of Ensemble Aurora (1986), he has recorded for major labels including Harmonia Mundi, Ricercar, Glossa and Accent. Gatti is professor of historical violin at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and the Conservatorio G.B. Martini in Bologna, and regularly teaches masterclasses internationally.

He has won awards including the Vivaldi Prize and the Diapason d’or, and has served as jury member and artistic director at various early music competitions and festivals. His research on Stradella, Corelli and Torelli has led to several discoveries, including 12 unpublished Corelli sonatas. His latest work, Praeconium Solitudinis, has been hailed as “a new paradigm of musical utopia.”
