Professor Basso Continuo, PhD student in the Arts

Following her piano studies María González studied harpsichord at the Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya with Beatrice Martin before entering the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. At the Schola, she studied harpsichord and basso continuo in the class of Jesper Christensen, gaining a Master’s in Early Music Performance. She was also involved in “La Nuova Fabbrica dell’Opera Barocca” in Novara under the guidance of M. Toni and D. Colonna.

Appreciated for her talents as a continuo player, María González has performed in numerous ensembles and with prestigious conductors: Masaaki Suzuki, Sergio Azzolini (acting as assistant in Markneukirchen and Weimarer meisterkurse), Alessandro Di Marchi, James Gaffigan, Diego Martin-Etxebarria, Florian Helgath, Martin Gester, Luzerne Symphony Orchestra, Accademia Montis Regalis, Camerata Bern, Capriccio Basel, Il Profondo, I Cavalieri del Cornetto, Ensemble Vocal de Lausanne, Bilbao Orchestra Sinfonikoa or Euskal Barrokensemble.

Along with her Ensemble Daimonion, María González won the first prize and the special jury prize at the Premio Bonporti International Competition (Rovereto). In addition, their recording of François Francoeur’s violin sonatas was awarded a Diapason d’Or.

Her pedagogical activities began in 2010 as coach and répétiteur at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, continuing later as a teacher of harpsichord, basso continuo and chamber music at the Higher Conservatory of Seville. Since 2017, María González has been teaching basso continuo at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, an institution in which she is also busy as an active researcher while pursuing her doctoral studies on basso continuo at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and KCB.
