The research group Collective Creation investigates the contemporary functioning of creative roles rooted in the Western classical tradition. Our activities follow two main trajectories.
The first focuses on case studies of recent works. In these studies, we examine the relationship between composer, score, and performer as it unfolds in actual artistic practice. We then confront this practical reality with prevailing notions of authorship found in the discursive context surrounding the work.
The second trajectory involves the creation of new work from an ecological perspective. Here, we explore the creative potential not only of composers and performers, but also of instruments, audiences, spaces, and other human and non-human actors. In doing so, we critically engage with traditional production relationships and the power dynamics they entail.
