Biografie
Aleksandar Madžar (b. 1968, Belgrade) began piano lessons at the age of six with Gordana Malinovic. From 1982 onward, he studied with Arbo Valdma in Novi Sad and Belgrade, and later with Elisso Wirssaladze in Moscow and Munich.
Madžar has won several prizes at international music competitions, including those in Geneva (1986), Bolzano (1989), Leeds (1996), and Milan (first prize at the Concorso Umberto Micheli in 1997). Since his 1990 debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Ivan Fischer, he has collaborated with leading orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra London, BBC Philharmonic, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Südwestfunk Orchester, and the National Orchestra of Belgium, working with conductors including André Previn, Rudolf Barshai, Marcello Viotti, Christoph Poppen, Dimitri Kitaenko, and Gilbert Varga.
Aleksandar Madžar has given recitals in London, Paris, Milan, Venice, Rome, Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, and Salzburg. As a chamber musician, he performs regularly with Louise Hopkins, Andreas Staier, the Takács Quartet, the Belcea Quartet, and Muriel Cantoreggi. He teaches at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Bern and at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel.
