Dutch tenor Amand Hekkers trained at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague and took masterclasses with Cristina Deutekom and Vera Rosza. He continued his studies with Gabriella Ravazzi in Italy, Henny Diemer in Utrecht, and Nelly Miricioiù in London.
As a soloist, he has worked with distinguished conductors including Jaap van Zweden, Kenneth Montgomery, Bruno Rigacci, Ed Spanjaard, Lawrence Renes, Ivan Marinov, Jan Stulen, and Arjan Tien. His operatic repertoire includes Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), Arvino (I Lombardi), Macduff (Macbeth), Rodolfo (La bohème), Nadir (Les Pêcheurs de perles), Le Remendado (Carmen), and roles in Wagner operas (Lohengrin and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), the last two recorded under Jaap van Zweden.
He has performed Lieder at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and at festivals in Zeeland and Friesland, and sang tenor solo parts in Puccini’s Messa di Gloria and Bizet’s Te Deum in Leipzig, Dresden, and Weimar. His oratorio repertoire includes works by Rossini, Mozart, Gounod, Haydn, Handel, and Dvořák.
From 2012 to 2017, Hekkers was Lecturer in Classical Singing at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. He is a regular guest teacher at the Royal Conservatoire of Copenhagen and the Conservatorio San Pietro a Majella in Naples and gives masterclasses across Europe, including at the Royal College of Music in London. Since 2019, he has been Lecturer in Classical Singing at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague.
