Dutch baritone Henk Neven is one of the leading song interpreters of his generation, with regular appearances at Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw and the BBC Proms. Equally at home in opera and recital, he received the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, was part of the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists, and in 2011 won the Dutch Music Prize, the highest Dutch distinction for a classical musician.
Recent highlights include a Dutch tour with the Orchestra of the 18th Century as Leporello and Don Alfonso, two Wigmore Hall recitals, and the world premiere of George Benjamin’s Lessons in Love and Violence at the Royal Opera House. He sang Don Giovanni for Northern Ireland Opera.
Neven has performed at major houses including the Opéra National de Paris, La Monnaie, Berlin Staatsoper, Komische Oper Berlin, Theater an der Wien and De Nederlandse Opera. On the concert stage he has collaborated with leading European orchestras such as the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra, OAE, Radio France ensembles and Freiburger Barockorchester, working with conductors including Simon Rattle, Jaap van Zweden, Marin Alsop and Daniel Barenboim.
His acclaimed recordings for Onyx include Auf einer Burg, The Sea, Rêves d’Espagne and With Love from Russia. Neven is artistic leader of the International Lied Festival Zeist and teaches at Codarts Rotterdam.
