Jiří Vodička

Jiří Vodička is one of today’s leading Czech violinists. He began playing the violin at a young age and was admitted to the University of Ostrava as an exceptional talent at just fourteen. He won several prestigious competitions, including the Louis Spohr Competition and Young Concert Artists.

As a soloist, he performs with major Czech and international orchestras, and his concerts are regularly broadcast on radio and television. In addition to his solo career, he is an active chamber musician: he is co-founder of The Trio, collaborates with a wide range of ensembles and artists, and carries out original projects. Since 2015, he has been concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic.

His recordings for Supraphon have been highly praised. After his solo debut Violino Solo (2014), he released a double album in 2024 featuring Dvořák’s complete works for violin and piano, acclaimed by international media such as Gramophone and Diapason.

Vodička is also active as a teacher at the Prague Conservatoire and the University of Ostrava, and he gives masterclasses both in the Czech Republic and abroad. He plays a rare Joseph Gagliano violin from 1774.
