The Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel (KCB) is an international artistic hub that brings together talent from across the world. Building on a rich tradition, the KCB trains musicians and performers to become outstanding artists and inspiring artist-educators. This international dynamic lies at the heart of our educational mission and enriches both teaching and the artistic field in Belgium and beyond.
From the 2026–2027 academic year, however, this openness is coming under serious pressure. Tuition fees for students from outside the EU are set to increase significantly. At the same time, structural funding for this group is limited to 2% of the total student population, while the KCB is deliberately committed to an international intake of around 10%. As a result, the costs for the KCB are increasing substantially, and studying at the KCB risks becoming financially out of reach for many talented applicants.
The impact extends beyond our institution. The KCB plays a crucial role in helping young talent progress into orchestras, ensembles and the wider cultural sector. When international talent is unable to join us, the artistic ecosystem of which we are all part is also impoverished.
To address this challenge, the KCB, together with the Friends of the KCB, is launching a solidarity fund. Through this fund, we aim to continue supporting talented international students and safeguard access to our programmes.
