Bernardo Silva was born in Porto, Portugal, and is one of the country’s leading horn players.
He studied in Lisbon and Hamburg with Jonathan Luxton and Ab Koster, and took part in masterclasses with renowned hornists including Radovan Vlatković and Hermann Baumann.
Bernardo is principal horn of the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música. He performs regularly as a soloist, in recitals, chamber music and orchestral settings, with appearances across Europe, North and South America, Russia and Asia.
He teaches at the University of Aveiro and at ESMAE – Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo in Porto, and frequently gives masterclasses in Portugal and abroad.
Bernardo often serves on the jury of national and international competitions, including in Portugal, Spain, Finland, Canada and the USA. He was awarded First Prize at the IHS Farkas Competition in Finland in 2002.
