Chichester Psalms – Leonard Bernstein | Requiem – Gabriel Fauré
Let yourself be carried away by an evening in which the human voice and expression take centre stage. 'The Power of the Voice' brings together young singers and a professional orchestra in an exceptional large-scale choral project. Two masterpieces of the choral repertoire are united in one powerful artistic production, in which the voice emerges as the ultimate means of expression – vulnerable, powerful, and deeply human.
Although Gabriel Fauré and Leonard Bernstein belong to very different eras and musical worlds, they share a profound sensitivity for vocal expression. Their artistic connection runs through Nadia Boulanger, who studied composition with Fauré and later taught Bernstein – making Fauré, in a sense, Bernstein’s musical 'grandfather'.
The concert will be performed by a large choir and orchestra, totaling approximately 150 musicians, under the direction of David De Geest. The original orchestral versions of both pieces will be used.
