MM Balkan – Jazz Department Concert

The Jazz Department of KCB invites you to an exciting project centred on Balkan music. Under the guidance of Nicolas Hauzeur and in close collaboration with the Pianofabriek, a specially assembled ensemble brings a rich and energetic programme to life, a musical world full of irregular rhythms, expressive melodies and intense ensemble energy.

The Mantra Music Sessions (MM Sessions – Balkan) are a project that brings together musicians from diverse backgrounds to share their musical traditions and knowledge, and to create and perform music collaboratively. The project aims to introduce conservatoire students and semi-professional musicians to world music. By taking part, musicians have the opportunity to further develop their creativity, technical skills and understanding of diverse musical cultures.

Nicolas Hauzeur

Who better embodies Balkan music in Brussels than Nicolas Hauzeur? For 25 years, he has been teaching and sharing his passion for Balkan music at Muziekpublique, where he plays the violin and arranges music. In addition, Nicolas is the initiator of numerous exchanges with Balkan ensembles and artists, organising residencies and workshops both in Belgium and abroad. In 2016, he helped launch the Brussels Balkan Orchestra, further strengthening his role as violinist, teacher, facilitator and unifying force within the Balkan repertoire, which he has passionately shared for many years.

This project is co-organised by KCB Domain head of Jazz, Bart De Nolf.
