Joris Rompen, Master 2 Wind Orchestra Conducting

Trilogie Cosmique

We are proud to announce the final HaFaBra conducting exam recital of Joris Rompen, marking the culmination of his studies at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel. For this concert, he will conduct the Royal Band of the Guides in a varied program featuring challenging and expressive works.

Joris Rompen

Joris Rompen (b. 1999) began his musical studies aged seven in Welkenraedt and continued at Sint-Pieters-Woluwe and Malmedy. In 2016, he joined KCB, where he earned three master’s degrees by 2024: saxophone (magna cum laude), music theory (cum laude) and an educational master’s (cum laude). He is currently studying for a master’s in HaFaBra conducting in the class of Yves Segers.

As a saxophonist, Joris won first prize at the 2023 OBF Next Generation Competition and second prize at the 2020 national Lions European Music Competition. He has performed as a soloist with the Royal Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides.

As a conductor, he has worked with orchestras across Europe and the US, including the MAV Symfonikus (Hungary), North Czech Philharmonic, Belgrade Chamber Orchestra and the US Marine Band. He was a semifinalist at the 2024 OCCO International Conducting Competition in Portugal. Since 2024, he leads the SBBE orchestra and previously conducted the Ardennenklang and Burgklänge wind bands.

Joris teaches saxophone at the Conservatoire of the City of Luxembourg and UGDA Music School, and performs chamber music with Duo Duende at festivals such as Walter Boeykens and Klarafestival.
