REQUIEM FOR CULTURE

Sharp rise in tuition fees threatens access to higher music education

Recent austerity measures have led to a significant increase in tuition fees for non-EEA students. This puts access to higher music education under pressure and threatens the international character of the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel.

To support these students, a fundraising campaign is being launched. The Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel stands for high-quality, international and accessible artistic music education.

Baris, Turkey, music and technology

“Brussels gave me the possibility to create art in a safer and healthier environment. (…) Here, I see independent artists building careers and creating their own spaces. I hope I can do the same.”

Kristina, Australia, clarinet

“I remember physically feeling my heart stop. I didn’t know how to react. (…) I couldn’t continue practicing. I simply couldn’t comprehend what I had just read.”

“A country isolating itself has never been a sign of prosperity. Changing the conditions for students after they have already moved countries and committed themselves to a degree damages trust completely.”
