“How much music can you make with just a plastic bottle?”
With that provocative question, the Percussion Ensemble of the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel opens the first concert of the season. The students demonstrate how rhythm and imagination go hand in hand, from minimalist experiments to the virtuoso energy of flamenco, from Chinese gongs to lyrical marimbas. Andy Akiho’s breathtaking Pillar III will also be performed: a whirling blend of tightly organised structures and boundless freedom. This opening concert is also a statement: percussion is not a mere collection of instruments, but an inexhaustible source of sound, energy and creativity.
