Hugo Wolf was an Austrian composer renowned for his chromaticism, rich harmonies, and profound emotional expression in his music. He is regarded as one of the greatest masters of the German Lied tradition, following in the footsteps of composers like Schubert and Schumann. Between 1888 and 1891, Wolf composed over 200 Lieder at a remarkable pace, often setting poems by Goethe, Mörike, Eichendorff, and Italian folk poetry to music.
