Each year, the singing students take part in an opera project. During which they gain some experience in this particular genre that combines singing and acting. Most often a ‘spectacle coupé’ is presented in which a number of scenes from one or more operas are strung together.
This year, we are inviting Hugo Segers, who directed last year’s brilliant show around Haendel’s Ariodante. He will supervise the participating students’ scenic preparation during the short production period. Jan Vande Weghe, the coach of the singing department, will look after the musical preparation and will substitute for the orchestra at the piano. This year, the choice has fallen on Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, the first opera of the Da Pointe trilogy (1786) in which the upcoming wedding between Figaro and Susanna reveals the declining social status of the aristocracy.
