Toots Thielemans Jazz Award 17th edition

The Toots Thielemans Jazz Award is one of the most prestigious distinctions of KCB - Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel. Each year, the award recognises the most outstanding master student(s) from the jazz department, who combine artistic maturity with a distinctive personal profile. Laureates receive a cash prize and the opportunity to perform at the Brussels Jazz Festival in Flagey. With this award, the conservatoire aims to encourage young jazz talent to give their best and lay the foundations for a future career. The late Toots Thielemans personally lent his name to this award. The presentation is made possible with the support of vzw Vriendenkring KCB.

And the laureate of the 17th TTJA is…

Yarno Hoedemakers

The “Toots Thielemans Jazz Award 2024”
(performance in 2026) goes to
Yarno Hoedemakers (pianist and composer).

Yarno Hoedemakers, laureate of the 2024 Toots Thielemans Jazz Award, stands out for his distinctive compositional vision, where rhythm, layering and sound experimentation play a central role. With a background in percussion and electronic music, he has developed an open and hybrid musical language that blends jazz, electronic music and club influences. His artistic development was shaped under the guidance of his KCB professors Diederik Wissels and Jeroen Van Herzeele. For Yarno, jazz is above all freedom, a music with few boundaries that constantly reinvents itself.
