Fifth INARJ conference comes to Brussels: an international perspective on artistic research in jazz

From the 25th to the 27th of February, the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel (KCB) will host the fifth conference of the International Network for Artistic Research in Jazz (INARJ). Founded in 2019, this international network aims to support and strengthen the rapidly growing field of artistic research in jazz.
It does so, among other things, through publications such as ARJAZZ-Journal for Artistic Research in Jazz and through its annual conferences, which serve as a meeting place for researchers, artists and musicians.

An edition centred on 'place' and 'space'

For this jubilee edition, INARJ focuses on two key concepts within artistic research: place and space. The conference invites participants to reflect on and experiment with questions such as:

  • What place does artistic research occupy within the jazz community?
  • How does the researcher relate to their own practice?
  • What space should artistic experimentation be given within an academic context?

For three days, artistic researchers from Belgium and abroad will present their work in words and sounds, engage in dialogue with one another, build new networks, and make music together. The conference forms a lively platform for everyone engaged with jazz, improvisation or popular music from an artistic perspective.
