Lulu Aertgeerts Appointed New Director of the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel

Welcome to Lulu Aertgeerts

We are delighted to announce that Lulu Aertgeerts will become the new Director of the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel as of September 2025. She will succeed Jan D’haene, who is retiring after a long and dedicated career at the Conservatoire and the Erasmus University College Brussels.

A Word of Thanks to Jan D’Haene

Jan D'haene @KCB2025

Jan D'haene has been part of the KCB community since 1980, first as a professor of music theory and, since 2021, as interim director. With his expertise, vision, and international engagement, he has played a vital role in the development of the Conservatoire. We sincerely thank him for his many years of commitment and leadership.

Looking ahead with confidence

Lulu Aertgeerts has been affiliated with KCB since the launch of the Musical programme in 1994, serving as a lecturer and director, and since 2013 as Head of Programme.

After studying Theatre Studies, Lulu built a multifaceted career: she performed with various theatre companies (including the Musical Department of the Royal Ballet of Flanders), appeared in popular television series (Wittekerke, Familie, Postbus X), worked for several years as a performance coach (including for Idool), directed and choreographed for a wide range of production houses (including KVS, NTG, and Music Hall), and recently took the stage herself in numerous musicals and plays (Mamma Mia, Calendar Girls). She also worked as acting director for several large-scale arena productions (Peter Pan, among others).

With her extensive experience, creative vision, and strong connection to both students and the performing arts world, Lulu Aertgeerts is the ideal person to lead the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel into the future. Starting in September 2025, Jan and Lulu will work together to ensure a smooth and expert transition. We look forward to this new chapter with confidence and curiosity, and we warmly wish Lulu every success in her new role!
