Study and living cost for non-EEA students

This information can help you determine the full financial picture of studying at KCB and develop your financial plan for the full course of your studies.  

In short:

  • The study fee for non-EEA students for a full-time programme of 60 credits is € 17.501,40 for the academic year 2026-2027.  
  • All KCB-students are required to pay an additional cost per academic year, for various school services and facilities. This amount is … for 2026-2027. 
  • Third-country nationals have to prove they have sufficient financial means to support their study and living costs. Most students do this by making a deposit on a blocked bank account as part of their visum application process. The required deposit amount for 2026 -2027 is € 12.744.  
  • You will receive a monthly amount of € 1062 from your blocked account. This amount corresponds with the estimated average living cost in Brussels per month.  
  • Non-EEA students should first and foremost apply for financial aid, bursaries or scholarships in the country of origin. Financial aid in Belgium is primarily aimed at Belgian citizens and is not accessible to the majority of international students, though a few exceptional categories exist (see above).

Study fee

The study fee consists of a fixed amount and a variable amount; this variable amount is calculated based on the number of credits you are taking. For citizens of non-EEA countries*, the tuition fee for the academic year 2026-2027 is as follows:

Every student can request a payment plan, allowing for a greater spread in payment, by emailing to studiegeld@ehb.be, AFTER receiving the facturation from the school.  

* In some exceptional cases, non-EEA students qualify for the regular tuition fee, if they can provide the required documentation and correct resident card. Examples of students that may qualify are: B and F/F+ card holders; (candidate) refugees; Ukranian students under temporary protection. This list is non-exhaustive. Additional cost

Every KCB-student is required to pay an additional cost per academic year, that covers various services and facilities of the school, such as use of rehearsal rooms outside of regular opening times, instrument maintenance, academic software, and so on. The cost for 2026-2027 is estimated at .....for a full-time programme of 60 credits.  

Laptop cost

Because an online learning environment is used for many courses, use of a laptop is highly recommended. For the programmes of Music, Musical and Educatieve Master, a basic laptop below 1.000 EUR should suffice. For students Music & Technology and Composition, a recent MacBook Pro is recommended with at least 512 GB internal storage capacity and 14" screen.  

Via the academic webshop, students can buy a laptop at advantageous prices or rent a laptop.

* Students under 25 years old can travel by bus, tram and metro in Brussels for only € 12 per year with the school seasonal ticket.  

** Before renting you must pay a deposit, this ranges between 1 or 3 months of rent. 

Proof of sufficient means of substinence 

Third-country nationals have to prove they have sufficient financial means to support studying and living in Belgium. For academic year 2026 –2027, this amount has been fixed on € 1062 net per month, for a period of 12 months.

This proof needs to be given in one of the following ways:

  • Proof of guarantor via a commitment to a formal obligation
  • An attestation of a bursary or loan from an international or national government, province, commune or institution of higher education for a sufficient monthly amount
  • The deposit of a sum of money equivalent to twelve times the minimum monthly amount a student is required to have (12 X € 1.062), into a blocked account opened by the higher education institution in the student's name OR a recognized financial services company. *

* You will then receive a monthly amount of € 1.062 from this account for your living expenses. This deposit on a blocked account is required as part of your visum application process. This deposit is a yearly requirement each time your student visum is renewed.

 

Scholarships and bursaries

Non-EEA and EEA students should first and foremost apply for financial aid, bursaries or scholarships in the country of origin.

Financial aid in Belgium is primarily aimed at Belgian citizens and is not accessible to the majority of international students.  

National scholarship of the Flemish community 

This is primarily aimed at students of Belgian nationality, but, some exceptions exist. Therefore, check the nationality conditions first.

Working and studying

With a student employee contract

Most (international) students work as a job student. This type of contract allows students to be  exempt from social security contributions and taxes up to a certain amount of working hours per month/year. The amount of allowed hours depends on your nationality and residence permit. Read all about it at Student at Work.

With a regular employment contract

Being self-employed

This means you are setting up a business where you are the sole proprietor. This requires the application for a professional card, unless you are exempt.  Contact a business counter for more information.

Search year after graduation

After completing your studies in Belgium, you may ask to be authorised to extend your stay as a third country national for a maximum of 12 months, in order to look for work or set up a company, with the aim of obtaining a residence permit for employment purposes.
