The Contemporary Music Ensemble pays tribute to Pierre Boulez, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year. With Dérive 1 as the centrepiece, the ensemble honours a composer who fundamentally reshaped the musical landscape through his radical intellect and innovative sonic language. Boulez’s influence continues to resonate today: his ideas on structure, colour, and form remain a source of inspiration for young composers. This is evident in the brand-new works by students of the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel, created especially for this concert. Not a retrospective, but a vivid dialogue between generations: today’s sound, sparked by yesterday’s fire. A concert as a laboratory of ideas, experiment, and fresh musical voices.
