Concerto Imperiale

The “Imperial Concert” reflects the many different aspects of Johann Heinrich Schmelzer’s career as a musician in Vienna. From his first record as a violinist and cornetist for St. Stephen’s Cathedral until he was named Hofkapellmeister. Schmelzer was one of the most important violinists of the 17th century, and an important influence on later German and Austrian composers for violin. He made substantial contributions to the development of violin technique and promoted the use and development of sonata and suite forms in Austria and South Germany.
